Coaching for Coaches: Mirjam Wallin helps other coaches step into more effective coaching

“Coaching is a tool with a lot of potential. It’s great to use for many demanding situations, that not only athletes can benefit from. It has helped me especially as support and clarity for resolving challenges.

Sessions every other week are not only about unpacking things that have piled up, but also about filling up the tank with fuel for the future. Coaching conversations have helped me to question my thoughts - that was necessary. New perspectives have increased my wellbeing too.

The best thing about coaching is the feeling of safety. It’s been easy to be direct, and I feel like Mirjam understands my inner world. She knows how to read me and hone in the important things. She reflects it back to me and helps me understand my own pain points. It’s been important to name my fears and increase my tolerance for being a work in progress. I think things would have been a lot more chaotic without coaching.

It’s clear that Mirjam has a natural desire to help.

“Refining my coaching and working on emotional states has been hugely beneficial. My role as a sport psychology professional is more clear now.

Videosessions work super well, and I think it says a lot that we’ve been able to work on difficult issues. The remote connection creates flexibility and the makes it easy to keep working together despite changes in location.

Mirjam always considers my needs and guides the focus of the session. I’ve implemented some of her coaching techniques into my own coaching, too. Thank you!

Coaching has been a very rewarding process that’s supported my transformation to a new role. My goal with coaching was to strengthen my competence, clarify my professional identity as a sport psychologist, and find confidence for working with clients. Instead of just gaining new knowledge, we’ve focused on a more holistic approach to emotional state in my job as a sport psychologist.

Mirjam has been able to stop me at the right moments, to guide me to process the difficult things. That’s been important, and I’ve often been surprised as I notice what I’m really thinking. I’ve gained new understanding of what it is in my job that evokes emotion in me, and how to move forward when feeling stuck.

Mirjam always finds the common thread, and I’ve been able to talk about my insecurities as well. Now I have a more strength-based approach to my job and more peace of mind. Even the small steps of progress have been big.

I’ve been happy with coaching and feel it’s important to continue with it.”
