Group coaching: Athletes coming together for shared learning and growth

Picture this: professional athletes from different sports coming together in a group coaching setting to learn, grow, and thrive—sounds inspiring, right?

Despite playing for different teams, the value of collective reflection, diverse perspectives and shared learning is incredible.

Group coaching complements individual sessions by offering a unique opportunity for peer support, strengthened resilience, enhanced communication skills, a confidence boost and an open and respectful setting to explore new solutions.

As a coach and facilitator, my role is to cultivate a supportive and safe environment where athletes can openly share experiences, strategies, and insights. Together, we tackle common challenges faced in professional sports, and empower each other to overcome obstacles and grow.

I guide the discussion, manage group dynamics and provide resources during the session to maximise learning and development. It's a collaborative journey where camaraderie is built, meaningful relationships are formed and personal growth is nurtured.

Oskari Setänen

“Group coaching was a great experience! The atmosphere felt safe and relaxed, so collaboration came naturally. The best part was hearing different perspectives from other players, as they sparked new thoughts. I also enjoyed getting to know new people, it felt important, too.

Mirjam as the group facilitator provided a framework for the discussion which was good, and the fresh approach to introductions was a nice touch. The remote coaching arrangements worked very well.

I found the group session highly beneficial and believe it can provide an opportunity to broaden perspectives and find support for thoughts and feelings among fellow athletes.”

"The group atmosphere was accepting and understanding, and the conversation flowed naturally. It felt easy to express feelings honestly. I discovered that others face similar challenges, and heard new perspectives.

Every athlete in the session was there for the same reason, to develop, and were willing to put themselves out there to grow both as a player and a person. We respected each other and everyone was focused on the moment, which is essential for a successful coaching session.

Mirjam guided the discussion and intervened when necessary, otherwise giving players free rein, which I thought worked well.

Group coaching was a pleasant and beneficial experience, providing new insights for the future. I recommend it and encourage an open mind. You won't be disappointed if you're willing to be honest, open, and put yourself out there!"
